Procedure for Booking to A Watermark Farm Stallion
A step by step guide for clients of Watermark Farm.
1.   Complete and sign the contract. Be sure to provide all requested information, including vet’s name and phone #, shipping address (FedEx will not deliver to a PO Box) and nearest major airport.
2.

Return the contract with the fees listed below to Watermark Farm no fewer than 10 days prior to first request for semen. (Watermark Farm will send you a copy of the signed contract.)

3.   Provide all applicable information on the Mare Health Form and return it at least 10 days prior to first collection.
4.   Keep the Mare Passport with the mare and have your vet record each insemination and pregnancy check. The completed Passport must be returned to Watermark Farm after the final pregnancy check, but no later than September 30. THERE WILL BE NO DEPOSITS REFUNDED OR STALLION SERVICE CERTIFICATES ISSUED, IF THE PASSPORT IS NOT RETURNED BY THIS DATE.
5.   Notify Watermark Farm on the first day of the mare’s heat and make preliminary arrangements for collection.
6.   Call Watermark Farm by 3 pm the day BEFORE the requested collection. We do offer Saturday collections when there is not a conflict, so prompt notification is much appreciated – especially if there is a show! If we have already scheduled a collection on the day you call, we can send semen at that time, otherwise we will collect the day after your call and ship FedEx Priority Overnight. (To ensure quality semen without undue stress on the stallion, we prefer not to collect on consecutive days, but try to meet all requests in a timely manner. Your help in coordinating collections will be very much appreciated. This process has worked well over the years.)
7.   Once the container is received, do not open it until your vet is ready to inseminate the mare. Following insemination, the second packet of semen should be maintained in the Equitainer for use the following day. Although the container should keep the shipment cool for 72 hours, we ask that you store the container in a cool location out of direct sunlight during very hot weather.
8.   After insemination, complete the insemination form, discard any unused semen, and return the container via FedEx with the enclosed shipping label. The container is insured for the value of the container to protect your Security Deposit. All items in the Equitainer (ballast bags, isothermalizer, plastic cup, coolant cans and insemination form) should be returned with the container. (Lost or damaged pieces will be charged to you by SBS.)
9.   Monitor the mare for ovulation. It is advisable to have your vet verify ovulation by palpation or ultra-sound as some mare will “hold” the follicle for longer than expected and may need a second shipment.
10.   Arrange to have your vet check the mare for pregnancy 14–18 days after ovulation. (Failure to check the mare at this time may cause you to miss a cycle, if she is not in foal. She should also be checked for twins early on due to the safety concerns involved in that situation.) It is also required that you recheck the mare at 30–35 days and 60 days to detect any early fetal loss. Please notify Watermark Farm after each pregnancy check.
11.   After the final pregnancy check, complete and return the Mare Passport to Watermark Farm by September 30.
12.   The following year LET US KNOW ABOUT YOUR FOAL! We love to receive photographs and the wonderful news!
13.   As your foal matures and begins a competition career, PLEASE send us updates and information. We would love to be able to brag about your successes with your baby!
